Mountain BIkes Apart Podcast - Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland

Graeme McLean from DMBinS Talks New Riders, New Products & Mountain Biking in Scotland

In this episode of the Mountain Bikes Apart podcast I’m talking to Graeme McLean from Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland (DMBinS). DMBinS are a company whose big aim is to further the sport of Mountain biking around the country, both helping riders to get into the sport and helping businesses to get into the industry.

Help for Riders

In the interview Graeme talks about a range of different things that his company does. On the rider’s side, one of the most interesting new developments is the set of trail guides they’re currently developing. These aren’t any normal guides, though – they’ll allow you to look at any trail around Scotland, click on a section of the map and see what the trail looks like at that point. They’re also working on a guide to the highlands, aiming to show off some of the best biking up that area.

Support for Mountain Biking Business

developing-mountain-biking-in-scotlandThe bulk of DMBinS’ work is in supporting the back-end of mountain biking in Scotland, helping people to get their ideas and projects off the ground. This should end up being a huge benefit to the riders who’ll take advantage of the facilities down the line. It includes developing new mountain biking products, helping local groups to build new trails or helping to grow biking accommodation and facilities at the trailheads.

One of the most interesting bits for me was hearing about a set of new and developing companies in the biking industry who are heading out to Eurobike very soon to showcase their emerging products. Hear how Scottoiler, Freedom Fox, Shand Cycles, Freeflow Bikes, Collective Tracks, Launch Components and Keela are developing lovely new shiny things for us to spend our biking tokens on – can’t wait to get hold of some of Oiler’s dirt repellant!

Colin

Colin started mountain biking in the early 2000s and has haphazardly, and with barely increasing skill, dragged his bike around the majority of Scotland's trail centres since then. Colin has oodles of hard earned experience in how NOT to do things - listen, be warned and don't repeat his mistakes...   More about Colin... Google+ Colin
